So I’m back. For those who don’t know, I use to run a blog of which will remain nameless a few years back and it lasted for about 10 years, alhamdulillah.  This blog will be a lot different because since my previous blog, I have had several major life changes from marriage to working professionally to working in my community on levels I never expected before. I also have matured a great deal and many things I believed in or said in the past I have since changed (in some ways drastically) for the best, inshaAllah.

Why not blog for MuslimMatters?

They are doing a good job and I will continue to help them as I have been doing in whatever capacity Allah has blessed me with, but I feel that my writings are best done alone as to not affect others or a brand.  MuslimMatters is a household name amongst the online Muslim community and I’d rather not affect it. Also even though I joined them, I actually never blogged anything. Nothing will change for all the MM staff, writers, associates, readers and fans, so don’t worry MM ummah! 🙂 [By the way, I am a proud monthly donor]

Why not resurrect your old blog?

This is an easy one. It’s dead.

Seriously though, there are several reasons why I do not want to bring it back.  It’s had its own era. That time period of my life is over. I do miss it sometimes. I learned a lot but also regret some of the content, may Allah forgive me. As with everything in life, there is a beginning and an ending.

Who is ibn Percy?

My father’s name was Percy and ibn for those who don’t know means “son of”. He passed away a little less than 2 years ago and had a great influence on my life as well as my Islamic upbringing. I plan on writing about some of what he has taught me and what he use to preach to his family and friends.

Why start blogging again?

I recently attended the Reviving the Islamic Spirit convention in Toronto, Canada and it did just that to me: revive. Specifically it was this lecture by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf that made me think: what am I doing to help the ummah? The sad part was I couldn’t think of an answer.  When I use to blog, the answer was: spreading Islamic ideas, knowledge and revival by blogging. I kept thinking and thinking. What can I do to truly help the ummah? What am I good at? What can I do? I got sad for a moment and then I realized my past had the answer: blogging. This time it would be different though. I would write more uplifting and positive pieces to challenge our communities to better and efficient in the global society. At least that is my intention, inshaAllah.

So there you have it. For those who were looking for MR, he’s dead. Ibn Percy’s era has started.
