The Suleman Maknojioa’s of our communities need to be called out and shunned!

I just read a very disturbing article about a “hafiz” by the name of Suleman Maknojioa who was sexually abusing a young student while teaching them the Qur’an. Can you believe this?! How can someone teach the word of Allah, the speech of Allah, the message from Allah and commit this atrocious crime against a young innocent child. What is shocking is that the UK’s court system has freed this man because he is the main provider for his family. What is even more shocking is the lack of uproar! We don’t like cartoons, videos, or even bad jokes, but for this we haven’t been as vocal against it as we can be. More

While Many Were Talking About Abu Eesa This Was Happening

Shaykh Abdullah bin Bayyah invited over 250 Muslim scholars and leaders from around the world for a meeting entitled “Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies” in Abu Dhabi. There were scholars from all different backgrounds: sunni, shia, salafi, sufi, etc. They came from all different parts of the world from Morocco to Afghanistan, from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia. Ed Husain wrote a good piece about it here:

British singer, Ellie Goulding, releases Song for Syrian Children

It’s rare to find celebrities doing something about tragic events occurring in some parts of the Muslim world due to it’s complexities. I applaud and thank musical artist Ellie Goulding for making this song for the children of Syria in trying to raise funds through the Save the Children UK charity organization. This will shed light to a depressing and tragic event unfolding in Syria to a wider audience.

You can donate by buying the song on iTunes here or this link here.

Mohamed Soltan, American Citizen and Ohio State Grad, arrested in Egypt

I have recently learned that a friend, Mohamed Soltan, of some of my friends was attacked and arrested in Egypt for protesting against the Egyptian military coup. I have pasted their words with their permission. Mohamed Soltan has been an activist in Egypt calling for Democracy. You can see him on Twitter here and he was on ABC News doing an interview here.

From my friend Raef:

Mohamed Soltan, shot earlier by Egyptian security forces is now arrested by the bastards. They broke into the apartment and took him – as of now, no one knows where he is.

Where are the condemnations for these crimes from Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Atheists, etc.?

Where are the condemnations for these crimes from Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Atheists, etc.?

Often when a Muslim commits a criminal act is expected for all Muslim organizations, Muslim groups and Mosques to condemn the actions of the Muslim criminal. I find this really sad and dumb.  No Muslim is responsible for the criminal acts of another Muslim.  No Muslim should have to apologize for another Muslim’s criminal act. We still do it many times over and over. With the recent murder committed by two Muslims in the UK, every major Muslim organization issued statements condemning it. Popular Muslim figures released videos condemning it. Yet it is often stated by some, “where are the Muslim condemnations?”. So with that said, I am asking where are the condemnations for these crimes? More

“The drone strike and its impact tore my heart, much as the tragic bombings in Boston last week tore your hearts and also mine.”

“Just six days ago, my village was struck by a drone, in an attack that terrified thousands of simple, poor farmers.

“The drone strike and its impact tore my heart, much as the tragic bombings in Boston last week tore your hearts and also mine.

“What radicals had previously failed to achieve in my village, one drone strike accomplished in an instant: there is now an intense anger and growing hatred of America.”

Letter of Love to Boston Community from Imam Suhaib Webb

Dear friends,

I greet you, invoking God’s peace and blessings upon you:

Friday’s are special for me because at the ISBCC I get to see the fabric of our community. One of my favorites is seeing our security staff early in the morning, smiling and greeting everyone who walks in. Br. Muhammad Ubai always asks me, “Did you get that 5 mile jog in today, brother Imam?” Second, but close, is getting hugs from Sr. Malika’s granddaughters, whose smiles bring so much light to my office.
