Al-Shabab terrorist attack in Kenya has nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with War and Politics in Africa

Al-Shabab terrorist attack in Kenya has nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with War and Politics in Africa

There was a horrific attack in Kenya at a mall by the Al-Shabab rebel group in Somalia. Many people are misunderstanding this and seeing it as “violence in the name of Islam”, but sadly it is not about religion at all. This terrorist attack is tragic and is condemned by all those who yearn for peace, but we should not allow it to be means to attack an entire faith group.

The Shabab, an Islamist militant group based in Somalia, took responsibility for the attack, saying it was revenge for Kenya’s military operations in Somalia, which began nearly two years ago. “Kenya will not get peace unless they pull their military out of Somalia,” said Ali Mohamoud Rage, the Shabab’s spokesman, in a radio address. The Shabab also sent out a barrage of buoyant Twitter messages, bragging about the prowess of their fighters before Twitter abruptly suspended the account late Saturday. Later, a new one was set up.

Khalid bin al-Walid’s Grave Destroyed and Mosque Damaged in Syria

The grave of one of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Khalid ibn al-Walid (May Allah be pleased with him) has been destroyed by forces of Bashar al Assad. This is very sad that I am speechless.

May Allah have mercy on the innocent population of Syria and remove the oppressors. May Allah protect all the historical and religious sites in Syria from this conflict.

Where are the condemnations for these crimes from Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Atheists, etc.?

Where are the condemnations for these crimes from Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Atheists, etc.?

Often when a Muslim commits a criminal act is expected for all Muslim organizations, Muslim groups and Mosques to condemn the actions of the Muslim criminal. I find this really sad and dumb.  No Muslim is responsible for the criminal acts of another Muslim.  No Muslim should have to apologize for another Muslim’s criminal act. We still do it many times over and over. With the recent murder committed by two Muslims in the UK, every major Muslim organization issued statements condemning it. Popular Muslim figures released videos condemning it. Yet it is often stated by some, “where are the Muslim condemnations?”. So with that said, I am asking where are the condemnations for these crimes? More

“Just six days ago, my village was struck by a drone, in an attack that terrified thousands of simple, poor farmers.

“The drone strike and its impact tore my heart, much as the tragic bombings in Boston last week tore your hearts and also mine.

“What radicals had previously failed to achieve in my village, one drone strike accomplished in an instant: there is now an intense anger and growing hatred of America.”

Al-Monitor: Yemeni Girls Turn to Solar Energy To Keep Power On

Al-Monitor: Yemeni Girls Turn to Solar Energy To Keep Power On

By: Nafeesa Syeed for Al-Monitor

SANAA — For Wafa Al-Rimi, Yemen’s revolution brought dark days. Though power outages are frequent in the country, Al-Rimi says during the past year’s unrest, some days saw less than an hour of electricity.

Attempting to study for exams in those conditions got the 16-year-old and some of her classmates thinking: How could they keep the lights on?
“We were tired of darkness,” Al-Rimi says. So, they turned to the sun.

CBS Anchor Bob Schieffer: “If Sandy Hook Shooter Had Arab Name, ‘People Would Be Going Nuts’”

During a Sunday morning panel discussion on the potential political impact of Friday’s massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., CBS Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer put forth the idea that if the shooter had an Arab name, people would be much more inclined to revamp public policy to address such gun violence, much like how government fundamentally changed its role after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Schieffer’s comment came in response to panel guest James Peterson suggesting that addressing the “proliferation of guns” in America “should be a new front in the ‘War on Terror.'”

CAIR Action Alert #683:

Action: Ask SUBWAY to Apologize to La. Muslim Barred from Restaurant
Restaurant employee asks customer ‘Are you Muslim?’ then locked the door

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/29/12) — CAIR is calling on all people of conscience to contact the SUBWAY restaurant chain to request that a formal apology be given to a Louisiana Muslim allegedly locked out of a sandwich shop in that state because of his faith. [SUBWAY, based in Milford, Conn., has more than 38,000 locations in 100 countries.]

A retired 63-year-old U.S. citizen of South Asian heritage who lives in New Orleans reported to CAIR that on November 21, 2012, he and his wife stopped at the SUBWAY restaurant in Shreveport, La. Before ordering, they went to the restrooms in the facility. The husband exited the restroom first and went outside the restaurant to wait for his wife in anticipation of re-entering to order their food.

While his wife was still inside the restaurant, the victim attempted to re-enter, but was blocked at the door by a female SUBWAY employee who allegedly asked him “Are you Muslim?” When the victim replied that he is indeed Muslim, the SUBWAY employee reportedly responded, “We can’t serve you.” The employee then went inside the restaurant and locked the door behind her. Fearing for his wife’s safety and distraught at the violation of his civil rights, the man called 911.

When the Shreveport Police Department arrived, an officer went inside the SUBWAY restaurant and later came out to tell the victim that the manager was “scared” of him and that he “better leave.”

[NOTE: The victim is 5’6″ and weighs approximately 155 pounds. He wears an Islamic cap, called a “kufi,” and a beard for religious reasons. His wife, a teacher, wears an Islamic headscarf, or “hijab.”]

In a letter to SUBWAY President and CEO Fred DeLuca, CAIR National Legal Counsel Nadhira Al-Khalili wrote in part:

“Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2247 states that it is a ‘discriminatory practice for a person to deny an individual the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of a place of public accommodation, resort, or amusement, as defined in this Chapter, on the grounds of race, creed, color, religion, sex, age, disability, as defined in R.S. 51:2232(11), or national origin.’ According to the law, a place of public accommodation ‘means any place, store, or other establishment, either licensed or unlicensed, which supplies goods or services to the general public.'”

Al-Khalili’s letter cited Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on account of religion in places of public accommodation and service. She also referred to the company’s diversity policy that claims SUBWAY “does not tolerate discrimination of any kind on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, creed, religion, color or national origin.”

CAIR requested that SUBWAY (1) investigate this troubling incident, (2) offer a formal written apology to the victim and his wife, (3) institute policy changes that will ensure that this type of incident does not occur in the future, (4) offer compensation to the victim and his wife for the humiliation and emotional distress caused by the SUBWAY employee and the police, and (5) participate in a corporate religious sensitivity program for franchise managers.

A copy of the letter was sent to Chief Willie L. Shaw, Jr. of the Shreveport Police Department and to the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division.

Immediate action requested: (As always, be polite and respectful.)

Contact SUBWAY to request that they (1) investigate this troubling incident, (2) offer a formal written apology to the victim and his wife, (3) institute policy changes that will ensure that this type of incident does not occur in the future, (4) offer compensation to the victim and his wife for the humiliation and emotional distress caused by the SUBWAY employee and the police, and (5) participate in a corporate religious sensitivity program for franchise managers.

Dear State Department: You Wasted $70,000 In Pakistan Television Ads

Dear U.S. State Department, President Barack Obama and Secretary Hillary Clinton:

The U.S. has bought $70,000 worth of air time on seven Pakistani television channels to air an ad showing President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton denouncing the anti-Islamic video that has sparked violent protests in the Middle East and North Africa. (source)

“How come the Syrian embasses haven’t been stormed!” Answer: They have been.

“How come the Syrian embasses haven’t been stormed!” Answer: They have been.

Many Muslims (including myself) complain and talk about how Muslims are protesting, getting angry, burning flags and storming embassies around the world because of a stupid video on the web while they do not about what is happening in Syria.  They usually say how come Syrian embassies aren’t stormed or attacked.

The fact of the matter is the Syrian embassies around the world have been attacked:

London, Australia, Cairo and other places:

Protesters attacked seven Syrian embassies around the world following reports of the bloodiest episode yet in Damascus’ nearly yearlong crackdown on dissent. Mobs trashed diplomats’ offices from London to Australia and set the embassy in Cairo on fire. (source)
